SOMEWHERE IN TEXAS…
A STAR TO BE

The godlike Schlager star Hansy Vordermeer captivates his fans – especially the hard-drinking Ferdi. In his quest to get closer to his great idol, who preaches a healthy, “eternal” life, Ferdi decides to radically change his lifestyle. A comedy with surreal elements, shot in Vienna and Carinthia.

Typeface

Meeresrausch began as a minimalist typeface, containing only the essential glyphs needed for movie titles. Over time, it evolved into an (almost) full ASCII typeface, enriched with a selection of additional Latin characters.

The concept was to blend the traditional Germanic type aesthetic with a modern, grungy touch. The font comes in two variants: Normal and Color. The Color version features a three-layered, vintage look designed especially for use on white backgrounds or paper.

The font is free to use and available for download here.

This is how the typeface appears when used in the main title sequence and the credits.

Promotional material

Early on, the film’s look wandered far from the “Heimatfilm” idea we started with. The story didn’t really belong there anyway, but that phase of brainstorming brought some delightfully crazy what-if ideas. One of them was to craft a poster in the classic painterly style of post-war film art. I made it digitally — but I certainly tried to give it that old-school charm.
